What is chandan wood?

Chandan wood, also known as sandalwood, is a fragrant and highly valuable wood that comes from the Santalum album tree, primarily found in India, Nepal, and Pakistan. The heartwood of the Santalum album tree is pale yellow to brownish-red in color, and it is known for its unique sweet, rich, and woody aroma. The oil extracted from chandanwood is used in the production of perfumes, incense, and various cosmetic and medicinal products. Chandan wood is also used in traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine for its therapeutic properties. Due to its high demand, chandanwood is becoming increasingly scarce, and illegal logging and smuggling of this valuable wood have become major concerns for its conservation.
